So back to my weekend! after a super lovely day on the Rhone River in Avignon, I was beyond tired so Alex and I stayed at home with the fam and I actually went to bed before ten, HUGE accomplishment. thank God i got a good night's sleep because Sunday we all met up downtown by the big fountain, paid 1 euro and took a bus to Mount St Victoire .. the most beautiful part of the Aix landscape and the inspiration for Paul Cezanne's work
there was probably about 20 or so of us venturesome enough to go on this trek. None of us reallllllly knew what we were getting into. a small group, myself included, decided we would just wing it, not really look at the map or have a plan.. and that could have been the recipe for disaster, but thankfully, after much trekking and literally forcing our way up the mountain, we met up with the rest of the clan and found an actual trail. this was no light jaunt or breeze.. at some points we were actually bouldering and trailblazing .. and literally, after every turn, the view got more and more incredible. seriously. i have never seen such beauty. the way the whole countryside sprawled out before us was captivating and from way up there it literally felt like we were on top of the world. coolest thing ever. and it was BEAUTIFUL weather. not a cloud in the sky, at all. true blue provencal sky. it really really made me appreciate where I am even more. that morning before we left our host dad made us little ham sandwiches and packed some fruit for us. i really could not have lucked out with a better host family. they are so caring and so sweet and we just laugh and laugh.
needless to say we were pretty tired the next day
life has progressed pretty normally here this week. nothing too exciting. except tuesday nights are my new favorite.. there is free champagne for ladies at this quaint little bar and later this week we are going to watch one of the guys in our program's host dad play at an open mic night at this wine bar!
i just booked a flight from milan to prague for wait for it .......... 19 euros. thats about $30. tell me where you could go in the united states for $30. you couldnt even drive from greenville to charleston for $30 in gas. im so excited.
