WINTERBREAK2011
so we started in Nice.. where the weather was seriously 70 degrees and the mediterranean sea was clearer than anything ive ever seen. we almost just spent our entire break in nice. but i have way too much money invested not to take these flights and trains ive booked.
observation: we do not take the same mode of transportation in and out of the same city. seriously we either arrive by train and leave by plane or vice versa. kinda crazy. oh and by the time this is all said and done .. i will have ridden trains, planes, trams, metros, subways, taxis, and a chartered boat. one of my prague guides suggested a segway tour, but id rather be shot dead than ride a segway through prague. oh and cant forget the miles of walking ill have logged.
so i rode my first train. ever. and it was the nicest train i could imagine. we had an entire compartment to ourselves so we pulled it out and made this sweet bed and slept on the journey from nice-milan. we got into milan pretty late and wandered its streets to find our hostel- which was actually one of the nicest hotels ive stayed in. we had a ltitle italian balcony and our own steaming hot shower and free breakfast in the morning. definitely living the dream. we went out for a little exploration that night in milan and here are my collection of observations.
- if you are not at lesat 5'9" (for women) , wearing super sexy stilettos and drop dead gorgeous .. you have no business being in milan.
- oh and milan's sole purpose .. is fashion and shopping. which it is actually a great plan to only bring a backpack when traveling because it seriously makes you evaluate if you need those gorgeous italian shoes or not, because then you have to carry them in your bag
we spent saturday exploring this 4000 stall market that reminded me a lot of charleston's market .. except in italy. we bought this crazy gold sequined dress for 3euros and decided that one of us has to wear it each night we are on break. hilarious.
the Duomo is the main attraction in Milan and it is absolutely beautiful. we paid 5euros to climb to the top and the view is amazing and the architechture is surreal. we ended up meeting 2 other groups of americans studying abroad who were on break and it was so cool. its like belonging to this secret society and you feel instantly connected to each other. really quite cool.
we went to the bar scene that night and ended up crashing this birthday party at this pub/club. the theme was 80s/punk? haha no idea, but they were so nice and fun and we jammed to Take On Me and Madonna. so what could have been better?
the next day we caught our plane to Prague.. exhausted but so excited for the next leg. we got to the city around 6 and a light snow had started. quite the contrast from 70 degrees in Nice and beautiful sunshine and 60s in Milan. but within an hour or so, i knew I was going to love this city!
we went to this really quaint czech bar for of course, czech beer, which is their pride and joy! we actually played drinking games at the bar which was cool ! gonna go take a nap but ill add more later!!
